Swimwear For Women - All Varieties And Shapes

Swimwear for women has come a long way over the years.  At one time women had only one style of swimwear to choose from, and it wasn’t exactly pretty, at least not according to today’s standards.  Then swimwear began to use less material and show more skin until one day the material was almost gone.  Enter the French string thong bikini, which was basically a piece of lingerie that you could wear to the beach.

Even as the material faded away on swimwear, there were still the more traditional one piece swimsuits that left something to the imagination, but not much even with some of the one piece suits.  Now there are one piece and two piece suits.  The one piece swimsuits can be as skimpy as a string bikini and the two piece suits can cover nearly as much as those old suits of the 1920’s.  Don’t worry, though, the string bikini didn’t go anywhere.

 

For a long time, the bikini swimsuit was all the rage in style.  Women wore a bikini even if they had no business in one because it was the thing to wear.  Then, perhaps, a woman in a bikini looked at herself in the mirror and invented a two piece swimsuit that was more appropriate for 90% of the bikini clad public on the beach, the tankini.  The tankini is a two piece swimsuit with bikini bottoms but a long, tank top style top.  It covers more than most one piece suits do, and it’s easy to go to the bathroom when your suit is wet!  Thank goodness for mirrors!

 

Women’s swimwear has come a long way around from the 1920’s to today, and it seems to be headed back in the direction of the 1920’s.  Why is it that women are becoming more modest when they buy their swimwear?  Could it be that people today are much larger than they were even 25 years ago?  Could it be that trends set by famous people like Princess Diana, who was never camera shy when she was on the yacht in her swimsuit, make an impression on our youth and they want to be like her by wearing similar clothing?  Who knows why it is, it just is!
